+ HOW CAN A COUNSELOR HELP ME?
Once you give yourself, or loved one, the gift of seeing a counselor - you will start to notice positive changes. As your psychotherapist, we will help build you up to be the best version of yourself. We will help you create realistic goals and get you to actually reach those goals. You will feel confident and ready to take on anything that comes your way!
+ Can I speak to a counselor before booking an intake session?
Absolutely. We offer a free 15-minute free phone call consultation that you can have with a therapist before booking a first session with them. During this phone call, your potential therapist can tell you a bit more about themselves and the therapeutic modalities they use along with hearing more about what you are looking for in therapy to ensure that it is a good fit. If you are interested in this, please let our Intake Coordinators know when you contact us.
+ Can I speak to an intake coordinator on the phone before booking a session?
We conduct all of our intake coordination via email. Whatever questions or concerns you have, our Intake Coordinators will be happy to assist with through email. Feel free to contact us with your concerns.
+ Is therapy at a private practice right for me?
Your reason for seeking counseling is unique to you. Perhaps you are a local college student who is looking for effective stress management therapy. Maybe you are a family who is dealing with the loss of loved one, resulting in grief. The decision to pursue therapy depends on your preferences, needs, and priorities. Remember, there is no “right” or “wrong” reason to attend mental health counseling. By working with a therapist, you will receive the insight and techniques you need to feel like your best self again.
+ WHAT IS THE LENGTH OF THERAPY TREATMENT?
We are all looking to feel better right away. Coming in for counseling can help you get on that track to feeling better. Each person has a different outcome they want to get from therapy. Since you have your own specific goal, we cannot tell you an exact amount of sessions it will take to reach. Additionally, each therapeutic method takes a different amount of time to be effective.
For example, in our professional experience, with a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach, we will typically spend about 3 months (or 12 sessions) to accomplish your goal. It is possible that after 3 months you will have more goals to accomplish and you will want to extend more sessions.
On the other hand, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy traditionally takes about 4 months (or 16 sessions) to help you overcome your fear. ERP counseling can be considered complete when you have successfully faced your high-level fears.
We don’t have any set rules in therapy and we are aware things come up in life that add new stress that you may want to address.
+ Do you provide monthly or biweekly sessions?
Typically, we recommend that new clients start with weekly sessions so they can build rapport with their therapist, but we understand that certain challenges may arise with a weekly commitment, from financial issues to scheduling concerns. We recommend weekly sessions so you have time to deeply discuss your goals and exactly how you want to tackle them with your counselor before switching to biweekly sessions. We do not offer monthly sessions to new clients as that would not be beneficial to the therapeutic process. At your first session with your counselor, you will discuss appointment frequency.
+ What can I expect during my intake session?
The intake session is the first session you will have with your therapist. In this first session, you and your therapist will spend time getting to know each other and your therapist will ask you a lot of questions, ranging from your upbringing as a child to your current concerns. At the end of your visit, you and your counselor will discuss the logistics of future appointments and you will have time to ask your counselor questions.
+ How long are therapy sessions?
The length of therapy sessions depends largely on the service you are seeking. For individual counseling, the first intake session is 60-minutes long and all ongoing sessions are 45-minutes long. For family counseling and couples therapy, all sessions are 60-minutes long, including the intake session.
