What makes the Anchor Therapy office space so special?
At Anchor Therapy, we believe comfortability is key. For some clients, they prefer to be in the comfort of their own home for sessions by working with a teletherapist. For other clients, they like to have an outside refuge from their home or office which is why our office suite in Hoboken is the perfect fit for them. We want all of our clients to feel like our office is a home away from home for them.
When you are provided with quality comfort, you will feel safe and open to share your concerns with your mental health therapist near you. Because of this enhanced sense of trust, you will experience lower stress levels which will encourage enhanced healing.
Welcome To Our Waiting Room
Throughout our Hoboken, New Jersey office, you will notice that we stay true to our group practice name, Anchor Therapy. Our office is decorated with calming blue hues and nautical furnishings.
Our practice’s name was created by our owner and psychotherapist, Courtney Glashow, LCSW. When you are in our waiting room, you will see the following quote by Courtney: “Therapy is the anchor that holds life together through choppy waters.”
As soon as you step into our office suite, you are greeted with our comfortable waiting room. In the waiting room, you can sit down and make yourself at home while you wait for your session to start. When your session time begins, your therapist will come out to the waiting room to get you for your session.
For children who are 13 years of age and younger, we require that they be supervised while in the waiting room. When your child is in session with their child therapist, we recommend that you remain in the waiting room in case you are needed during the session or there is an emergency. If you as the parent, or the caretaker present, are unable to stay in the waiting room for the entirety of the session, it is asked that you inform your child’s play therapist and provide the child counselor with your phone number so you can be reached in the case of an emergency.
We ask all caretakers to return to the waiting room at least five minutes prior to the end of your child’s in-person therapy session. That way, you are present for your child once they leave their session as we cannot leave your child alone. Our clinicians are seeing several clients a day, so we ask that you please be respectful of the next client following your child’s appointment as we are respectful of your time. If you or your child’s caretaker is late to pick them up at the end of their session, then we will discharge therapy services.
Step Into Our Kitchen
To create a relaxing environment, we give our clients access to our office’s kitchenette area. Here, you will be able to help yourself to some drinks and a sweet snack.
We offer the following complimentary refreshments to our amazing clients:
Coffee
Tea
Water
Hot chocolate
Dark chocolate
As humans, we are very easily impacted by our surroundings. For example, a sterile office that is cold and unwelcoming may make you feel closed off. On the other hand, an inviting space like our office encourages you to be your true self, and gives you the space and assurance to feel your feelings and openly discuss your emotions.
Therefore, we took the time to decorate our office intentionally so we could set up a therapeutic space that takes our clients into consideration.
How does Anchor Therapy’s office accommodate children?
We serve children of all ages, from ages 0 and up. Our child therapists use special therapeutic modalities for children, such as play and art therapy.
As therapists, we aim to speak your child’s language. For adult clients, our licensed mental health counselors understand that adults have the comprehension and ability to openly voice their concerns through traditional talk therapy. On the other hand, children do not possess the mental maturity to do this. Hence, it is important that we learn how to communicate with children in a way that they understand, and in a manner in which they can learn from. This is where play and art therapy comes in!
Simply put, children speak through the language of play. In addition to some children being too young to properly express their emotions verbally, there are other reasons as to why a child may not feel comfortable openly talking about their feelings. For example, they may be introverted, they may struggle to express themselves verbally, or they may feel too vulnerable opening up to a child counselor. Whatever the reason is, our child therapists are well-equipped to handle your unique situation.
Play therapy gives your child the space to explore their worries since play is a known activity that feels like second nature to them. Play is used intentionally to investigate your child’s emotional and mental health struggles. Through play, children are able to survey their feelings and express it to the trained kid therapist that way.
Child play therapy is unique since children are not only exploring their emotions, but they are also creating solutions to their issues. Many children may be intimidated by a clinical environment but, luckily, our office is a warm space where they will feel free to play and explore their identity!
At Anchor Therapy, we have the latest play and art therapy materials for children. We offer traditional games and toys, such as popular board games and Legos. We also offer mental health-focused games, cards, and books so children can explore their emotions. It is important to remember that each client is different so each child counselor will use different approaches.
Some techniques used in art and play therapy for children include…
Creative collages
Drawing
Doodling and scribbling
Painting
Finger painting

Like our waiting room, each of our offices ring true to our name, Anchor Therapy. Our offices are immersed in our classic Anchor blue color and have oceanic furnishings which gives clients a sense of serenity and peace, like an ocean or beach would.
Comfortability is one of our top goals for you! It is when you feel comfortable that you have the space to explore your emotions and your identity.
There are many reasons why it is important that you feel comfortable in your therapy sessions. Here are some benefits of comfortability in mental health counseling:
Trust and rapport-building
Authenticity and honesty
Emotional safety
Increased self-reflection
Collaboration and goal attainment
When you feel comfortable and relaxed in therapy, you are inadvertently creating an environment that is favorable for healing and positive change. This helps you create a strong therapeutic alliance, foster collaboration, and build a relationship of open and honest communication with your therapist.
